Roman Pflugfelder
Short Bio
I was born in 1974 in Vienna, Austria. I received 2002 a Dipl.-Ing. degree (comparable to a M.Sc. degree) in Computer Science at the University of Technology Vienna (Walter Kropatsch's group). My awarded master's thesis dealt with unsupervised learning methods and their use in traffic behavior recognition. During my studies, I undertook 2001 a research internship at the IRIS group (Brian Lovell), University of Queensland, Australia. I finished 2008 my Ph.D. study on surveillance camera self-calibration with distinction at the ICG group under Horst Bischof's supervision. My second referee was James Ferryman.
Currently, I am working at the Austrian Institute of Technology in Vienna where I continue my work on camera self-calibration and object tracking in the video surveillance field together with people such as Branislav Micusik, Csaba Beleznai and David Schreiber.

Research interest
My research is focused on various geometrical, statistical and computational tools and optimization techniques that enable automated video surveillance applications. I have contributed in areas such as camera calibration, object detection, object tracking and event recognition. I am currently interested in questions such as how calibration can help tracking especially in camera networks with camera views that are non-overlapping.
Project work

- April 2009 - May 2012: Simultaneous Calibration and Tracking: A joint optimization approach for arbitrarily placed cameras
